Honouring Cultural Legacy

Townsville Shopping Centre is proud to celebrate culture and connection with our reimagined First Nations iconography.

Our iconography reflects the spirit of our unique region and celebrates our vibrant community and the stunning landscapes.

This visual identity has been thoughtfully reimagined by respected local First Nations artist Nicky Bidju Pryor, and shaped through meaningful collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices.

The result is a powerful expression of culture, legacy and connection to Country, honouring the stories that continue to live and evolve across our land.

The reimagined iconography builds on Townsville Shopping Centre’s ongoing commitment to recognise and celebrate First Nations culture, reflecting the deep-rooted cultural identity of our region and the stories that have long shaped it.

You may notice familiar visual elements – including flowing lines and dot motifs – echoed in the centre’s Acknowledgement of Country mural proudly on display near the entrance to our Food Court, also created by Nicky Bidju Pryor.

Acknowledgement of Country

Townsville Shopping Centre is situated on the traditional lands of the Gurambilbarra Wulgurukaba People, the Traditional Custodians. The Centre acknowledges and pays our deepest respects to the Elders past, present and the emerging leaders of this community.

We also acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the surrounding districts to the Northern, Southern and Western regions, along with the waters off the coast of Townsville, and extend our respect to the Torres Strait Island community members whose cultures and contributions continue to enrich our community.

This Centre is dedicated to serving the whole community of Townsville with inclusivity and respect.
