Fresh & Save Development

Our next chapter is taking shape

Long-time locals will remember the glory days of Kingsvale and Sunvale.

For decades, this site has been part of Townsville’s story. Now, following the demolition of the former Kingsvale and Sunvale buildings, the next chapter is officially taking shape.

Construction of a new Fresh & Save Food Warehouse is underway, bringing a new value-focused grocery offer to Townsville and adding even more everyday choice to Townsville Shopping Centre.

This next stage is about looking forward while recognising the history of this well-known Townsville site.

Construction is underway

We’re shaping the future of Townsville Shopping Centre, with a new grocery experience and greater everyday choice on the way.

Fresh & Save Stage 2

Curious? Here’s the lowdown

What’s happening?

The former Kingsvale and Sunvale site is moving into its next major chapter, with construction underway on a new Fresh & Save Food Warehouse.

What is Fresh & Save?

Fresh & Save is an Australian-owned and operated food warehouse known for strong value, bulk-buy savings and market-style fresh produce.

The new store will bring a different grocery shopping experience to Townsville and form an important part of the continued evolution of Townsville Shopping Centre and the broader precinct.

Who is building it?

Locally owned Hurst Constructions QLD has been appointed to deliver the development.

Established in Townsville in 2012, the company employs 16 people directly and is supported by an extensive network of local subcontractors and suppliers.

What does the project mean for Townsville?

Around 120 workers are expected to be involved throughout construction, with at least 18 local businesses anticipated to make up around 80% of subcontractors.

Most construction materials are also expected to be sourced from within the region, helping to keep more of the project’s benefits in Townsville and North Queensland.

When will construction be completed?

Construction is expected to continue throughout 2027.

An opening date will be confirmed when construction nears completion, so keep an eye on this page and our social channels as the development takes shape.

Will Townsville Shopping Centre remain open during construction?

Yes. Townsville Shopping Centre will continue to trade while construction progresses.

Customers may notice increased construction activity around the development site as works move forward. We’ll continue to keep customers and retailers updated throughout the build.
