We’re proud to say Trevor the Travelator is officially rolling near Woolworths! Come and check him out… he’s the smoothest ride in the north.

37 years and eight trips around the world

Since Townsville Shopping Centre first opened more than 37 years ago, the travelators near Woolworths have been carrying shoppers up and down with loyal service — travelling the equivalent of eight times around the Earth’s equator. 

After almost four decades, they had well and truly earned their retirement. To keep our community moving smoothly, it was time for a modern upgrade.

Enter Trevor the Travelator

Townsville Shopping Centre announced they were taking five to freshen up, calling in the locals at CES Construction to install a brand new, shiny travelator. 

Affectionately named by Star 106.3 and the Townsville community, Trevor the Travellator's debut was celebrated in true Townsville style. With Archie & Donny on the mic, there was no chance of this being just any old ribbon-cutting.

In the weeks leading up to the launch, the community rallied behind Trevor the Travellator with breakfast radio antics, a moving poem for the retiring travelators, and voting on a “walk of fame” to honour local legends.

On the big day itself, celebrations hit full stride — complete with a specially baked cake, Townsville Brass Band, stirring bagpipes, surprise visits from mascots and VIPs, high-energy Townsville Rockers dancers, and the showstopper: a song written especially for Trevor, performed by NQ Opera and Music. The finale saw 89-year-old footy tipping star Roy officially declare Trevor the Travellator open at 9am on Saturday 16 August 2025.
