Proud Past. Powerful Future.

Long-time locals will remember the glory days of Kingsvale and Sunvale.

Bustling retail hubs in the 1980s, they were home to much-loved stores like Knitwitt, Distinctive Desserts and Status Menswear. If the walls could talk, they’d tell stories of family outings, first jobs and familiar faces. After 46 years, we’re making way for something new.

This next chapter is about honouring the past while investing in Townsville’s future. Check out the progress photos, historical art gallery, and FAQs below.

How long will demolition take?

The demolition will begin in September and is expected to take approximately 8 weeks. We’ll keep you updated right here as the works progress.

What will happen to the murals on the buildings?

We know how much these murals mean to the community - and they mean a lot to us, too. That’s why they’ll live on in a digital gallery on our website so their stories can continue to be shared and celebrated.
